Description: |
The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) heat index combines both air temperature and relative humidity into a single value that indicates the apparent temperature in degrees Fahrenheit, or how hot the weather will feel. The higher the heat index, the hotter the weather will feel, and the greater the risk that outdoor workers will experience heat-related illness. The key step was to configure the Decision Matrix Component with the various temperature and humidity range stratification, and the resulting 4 color warning output. Once the ranges were set, assigning the heat index fields was like painting a fence with the color graph that is automatically created (see the component properties dialog box above). The point of this example is to show that pseudo-arbitrary decisions (221 possible outcomes on the 17*13 possible input combinations in this case) can be fully automated on dynamic sensor information with some of the Decision Logic Components provided in AI Builder. Once configured, the Decision Matrix Component simply shows 2 inputs and 4 outputs - each of the outputs representing one level on NOAA's color-coded warning system.
